Thursday, December 11 till Sunday, December 28, 2014 – Ethan Claymore – 2 or 7:30pm on select dates at the Village Theatre in Qualicum, BC – a 38-minute trip from Nanaimo, BC
“Ethan Claymore” is a Canadian stage play that is a truly remarkable comedy – it blends a pinch of “Seinfeld” to the overall softness of a Norman Rockwell winter scene.
Without spoiling the plot too much, just before Christmas, Ethan Claymore, an egg farmer and reclusive widow of 5 years, is approached by his neighbour Douglas to end the mourning period by joining Douglas and his friends at the local Fina Station, where they literally talk about nothing. At the same time, a new schoolteacher has arrived in town (a single woman schoolteacher no less), and also coincidentally, Ethan’s brother’s ghost has just shown up in town. To say any more would be to reveal too much – go see the show yourself to find out more.
Written by Norman Foster and directed by Wendy Punter, “Ethan Claymore” has become a Canadian classic, performed this year by the ECHO Players theatre group in Qualicum, BC. Ethan Claymore is vintage Foster with great physical, verbal, and visual comedy, and a heartwarming comedy/ghost/love story that is sure to renew faith in family values and emphasize the importance of friendships.
