An annual Vancouver Island tradition returns! From the last Thursday in November until the first Sunday in January, Ladysmith BC will brighten the skies with thousands of twinkling Christmas lights. The grand opening is a fun-filled and family-oriented festival that rings in the holiday season.
On November 30 there will be the 30th annual Ladysmith Light Up, kicking off this 6-week Festival of Lights! Start the main event with an early Community Spaghetti Dinner at 3pm ($8 for adults, $5 for children). It will take place at the Eagles Hall. Also at 3pm is the Christmas Craft Fair held at Aggie Hall in northern 1st Avenue. At 4pm, take to the streets and check out the various varied street entertainment and concession stands. The live entertainment will take place on the stage in front of the Aggie Hall.
Stick around until 6:30pm where Santa will arrive to initiate the Light Up! This is a magical moment when ALL of the Christmas lights will go on to brighten the whole of Ladysmith! At 6:45 pm there will be the very special Kinsmen Parade, which takes place along First Avenue and heads toward Aggie Hall. And after the parade, there will be the Bob Stuart Park and Aggie Hall Light Up, the Chuck Perrin Christmas Tree presented by the Nanaimo Airport Commission, and even some spectacular fireworks to cap off the event! The fireworks are presented by the Ladysmith & District Credit Union.
This is a classic Vancouver Island Christmas event and Ladysmith’s biggest winter event. It’s a must to see the spectacular colours and lights.
Please note that 1st Avenue will be closed to traffic from 3pm until after the Light Up. Shuttle buses will be running from Transfer Beach and the churches at the north end of 4th Avenue.
