On January 21 Sea Cider Farmhouse will be wassailing! This will be a day filled with fun family events at their farm and ciderhouse in Saanichton. Their free event will also have food and drink tickets available for purchase.
What’s wassailing, you ask? The word wassail comes from the Anglo-Saxon phrase ‘waes hael’, which means ‘good health’. It’s an ancient custom that blesses the orchards and scares away any and all evil spirits. Traditional wassail celebrations involve singing and drinking and toasting to the health of trees in the hopes that they thrive in the coming year.
With this in mind, Sea Cider will be host to the following fun activities:
- An official orchard blessing
- A complimentary welcome glass of cider
- Guided tours of the cidery and orchard
- Kids crafts & activities
- Morris dancers
- Mummers play
- Delicious food samples from Sea Cider’s catering partners
- Cider for purchase
- Cider and food tickets available for purchase
