Tuesday, July 1 to Saturday, July 5, 2014 15th Annual Ska Festival in Victoria
The biggest and longest-running ska festival not only in Canada but in all of North America, Victoria’s Annual Ska Festival has been drawing ska lovers from all over the world for the last 15 years to celebrate this unique high-energy music genre.
The music style, which originated in Jamaica in the 60s, made its way to England and North America in the recent years. It is described as a fusion of Jamaican folk, Cuban beat and jazz. It can also be referred to as the faster and more upbeat version of reggae.
This huge event will be held at Ship Point for the first day and then throughout Victoria for the next four days. Featured artists include Fishbone, Shaggy, Barrington Levy, Los Rastrillos, The Aggrolites and more.
