Vancouver Island attracts people all over the world year-round for many reasons, including the huge amount of outdoor activities for adventure-seekers. You can go bungee jumping in Nanaimo, skydiving in Campbell River, and storm watching in Tofino – there is no shortage of adrenaline-pumping activities here.

Widely known for having stunning mountains, beautiful beaches, and breathtaking forests, Vancouver Island is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. The never-ending wilderness offers car-accessible camping with incredible views, numerous hiking trails, and various options for cycling, ziplining, rock climbing, kayaking, caving, and more.

With so many options for outdoor adventure, you will be hard-pressed to decide what to do on your vacation! Thankfully, the Island isn’t going anywhere – return visitors are always welcome.

There are thousands of caves on Vancouver Island alone, which is why it is a world-renowned caving mecca. Be sure to check out the Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park in Qualicum Beach, where you have a choice of two beautiful parks for activities, and you can ride down an epic underground waterfall into the park. Other top places for caving include the Little Huson Caves north of Campbell River and Strathcona Provincial Park.

Winter Storm Watching

Tofino is considered to be the home of winter storm watching. Wait for a storm to roll in as you stand where the beach meets the forest, fully outfitted in raingear. Expect your breath to be taken away as you watch the giant surf transform and roll in at what seems like slow motion.

Skydiving and Gliding

There are several different options for skydiving and gliding around the Island, all of which will give interested parties the thrill of a lifetime. Here are a few of the main companies that offer various options for skydiving and gliding:

  • Pacific Airsports – Based in Campbell River, this company offers skydiving and tandem jumping for beginners, students, and licensed experts alike, extending services to Port Hardy, Courtenay, Nanaimo, and Victoria as well.
  • Victoria Skydivers – this Victoria-based tandem skydive company offers scenery based in southern Vancouver Island; sometimes they even perform exhibition jumps to raise funds for charity.

Ziplining and Bungee Jumping

There are many different opportunities for ziplining and bungee jumping on Vancouver Island, all of which make for an exhilarating experience. WildPlay Nanaimo can set you up for a memorable day adventure, or visit WildPlay West Shore Victoria for tree-top experiences. Adrena LINE Zip Adventures in Sooke is set in a coastal forest with eight ziplining tracks, and if you’re near or in Campbell River, the Strathcona Park Lodge nearby offers ziplining in addition to its many scheduled adventures.

As you can see, there is no shortage of opportunity for adventure on Vancouver Island. If you know of any thrilling adventures and you don’t see it mentioned, let us know in the comments.
