Earth, Water, & Wild Foods Day is a free, festival-style Nanaimo event taking place this year at Bowen Park. There’s a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy! One of its biggest features are the workshops taking place the day of. These two require pre-registration in order to participate:
Lawn Alternatives, 11:30am to 12:30pm. As people try to keep their lawns green and healthy in the summer, water usage doubles. Presented by horticulturalist Amy Robson of Nature’s Choice Design, Lawn Alternatives will show you how to make your lawn or backyard look healthy and vibrant without relying on excess water or chemicals. You may also discover some wonderful ways to adopt elements into your overall gardening plan such as edible, native plants, permeable surfaces, and more.
Millstone River Walk, 1:30 to 2:30pm. The Millstone River passes through Bowen Park, and it’s well worth exploring! Learn more about the edible, native plants and local stream habitats present here from the guides present, whose expertise is sure to both educate and entertain!
To pre-register for these workshops, please call 250-756-5200 or register online at this link here.
If you missed out on these workshops, don’t worry! There will still be lots to check out at the festival, including interactive community displays, demos, kids’ activities, food, and live music, all in honor of the local environment!
