If you are planning a Vancouver Island golf vacation, you won’t be disappointed by the many beautiful courses that are scattered up and down the Island. We think it is one of the world’s best places for golf – the idyllic spot to practice your swing and soak up the beauty of the area.

Boasting a climate that encourages golfing year-round, Vancouver Island is home to many of Canada’s most stunning and challenging golf courses. The Vancouver Island “Golf Trail”, spanning 250 km (155 miles) along the Pacific coast, features 13 golf courses that are scattered from Victoria to Campbell River.

Beyond the golfing itself, there are also several breathtaking resorts where you can lay your head at night in-between courses, namely the Bear Mountain Resort, Highland Pacific, and Crown Isle Resort. With 13 courses to choose from, it’s easy to see why planning a Vancouver Island golf vacation is on the bucket list of many.

A Brief History of the Golf Trail

First established in 1998, the Vancouver Island Golf Trail didn’t become a hot destination for avid golfers until 2004, when the Bear Mountain Resort opened just outside Victoria. With 13 courses and many resorts, hotels, and motels along the way, it is no wonder why people pack up their clubs and head to Vancouver Island for an unforgettable vacation year after year.

Regardless of your skill level, spending a week or two exploring the Golf Trail will leave you rejuvenated and inspired. Here is a list of the 13 courses that comprise the trail:

South Island – Victoria

Mid Island – Nanaimo & Qualicum Beach

As you can probably tell from just looking at the names, there is a wide range of options offering spectacular views of all different parts of the area, from the valley to the mountains and sea.

There are also several different packages that give you the opportunity to experience the old-world ambiance of Victoria, the Cowichan Valley wine country, the incredible beaches of Parksville and Qualicum Beach, or the natural wilderness of the North Island.

Each package provides you with the excellent opportunity to sit back and relax when not on the course. Prices for the Golf Trail packages will range depending on the time of year. The packages are based on three separate golf seasons – offseason (the rainy months), the shoulder months (early spring and fall), and summer. Be sure to do your research before booking your vacation, as certain packages may be more attractive during specific times of the year.
