One of Tofino’s big annual events returns! This year, the Cultural Heritage Festival centers on celebrating Women of the West Coast. One of those women includes Cougar Annie, a.k.a. Ada Annie Rae-Arthur (known later as Ada Annie Lawson). Cougar Annie was a pioneer who chose to settle near Hesquiat Harbour at Boat Basin in Clayoquot Sound. In her honour, the Cultural Heritage Festival will include a play presentation based on Annie’s life and history!
The main event will open with a gala and West Coast book launch held at the Ucluelet Aquarium, and the main performance about Annie Cougar will take place at the Clayoquot Sound Theatre in Tofino. An ongoing exhibit will feature artwork created by many talented West Coast women artists! Several workshops will also take place in the duration of this year’s festival.
