The annual Frank Ney Memorial Polar Bear Swim returns to Nanaimo, now in its 58th year of running! Sponsored mainly by Royal LePage Nanaimo, this is a free event that gives brave souls the opportunity to jump into the freezing ocean on the shot of a flare. Entries of all ages are accepted from 3 1/2 to the oldest participant of 97 years old! A bonfire will be held on the beach as well as a fire inside of the Kin Hut at Departure Bay Beach to help keep everyone warm and toasty. Registration begins at 11:30am, with the swim taking place at 1pm.
